Curiosities in racing: McRae electric Buggy to the 2012 Dakar

It has just started the battle that but who will be the first electric vehicle to complete the toughest in the world, the Dakar 31st. In the last two editions of the Dakar, the McRae team has developed its buggy getting three of the seven units that participated in 2012 reach goal. Cylinder engine from a snowmobile, the belt drive and low weight are the main features of this buggy 4 ? 2.


Now, one of the pilots of the McRae Buggy 4 ? 2, Colonel Tim wants to go a pass beyond and aims to become the first cart to reach the goal of the Dakar, that in 2012 will be in Lima. Under the auspices of the ASO and under the name of Green Dakar, Colonel will have the support of company specializing in ultralight materials and electric vehicles. The second point is clear, the first essential to achieve that lightness will remain the strong point of the McRae Buggy 4 ? 2


The new engine will deliver a power of 80 Kw and will feature 3 different maps of power: economic, standard and full power. Further optimize the aerodynamics and like OSCar rivals, the buffers will have a Dynamo that will convert impacts on electricity. The energy will be stored in a pack with a capacity of 54 Kwh lithium ion battery
