Most of the city of Melbourne Councillors believe that Grand Prize Australia must remain the capital of Victoria.
The annual event, which dates back to 1996, has attracted international media recently, especially that the mayor said that State Government must not sign a new contract.
But the pattern of F1, Bernie Ecclestone guided the coup and the matter returned to the headlines this week.
Michael Danby, whose constituency includes the area of Albert Park, told Parliament that their constituents overwhelmingly supported the renewal of the event.
But the Herald Sun newspaper claims is that the views of Danby and Lord Mayor Robert Doyle is not actually widespread.
The report said Doyle has eight companions Melbourne Councillors and seven of them "want to keep the annual event that he is saying that his time was over".
"I want to be here as long as possible," said Councilman Charles Jetter, and his colleague Kevin Louey agree F1 is "a difference of other sporting events" and "enhances the name of Melbourne".
