The current Concord Pact expires at the end of 2012. By then, all the contracts of the CVC, owner of the rights of the formula one teams, come to an end. The current agreement currently covers the period 2008-2012, which means that the 31 December 2012 the teams will be free to negotiate their future.
As it is usual when the contract is approaching its conclusion, Luca Cordero di Montezemolo takes to meter asset and defend their interests. In the past, it was already agreed that the Scuderia would receive special treatment in exchange for signing the Pact of Concord, something that does not dislike them at all.
If memory serves me correctly, in the past already enjoyed the privilege of being the more money they got in the previous agreement, as well as being the only ones with right of veto. The Ferrari boss will want to continue to maintain certain privileges in the future, so it is starting to pave the ground launching poisoned darditos:
I believe that we we must be very pragmaticos. At the end of 2012 contracts each and every one of the teams with CVC will reach its conclusion. So we have three alternatives. Renew with CVC, or, as they did the team of USA with great success, we create our own company, as the NBA. We organize races, we would have the rights of television and all that. The third possibility is to look for a different partner. Bernie Ecclestone has done a great job, but it has sold its shares and is no longer the owner of the business, but CVC. In the end everything will be in the hands of the teams.Montezemolo was clearly commenting as it presents the picture in the short term:
At the end of 2012 defeat the current contract, so CVC would have nothing. I think it is important that we have alternatives. We'll see. We have time to go.Nothing new under the Sun. Luca Cordero di Montezemolo comes from time to time with the same mantra to get the maximum possible slice in the renewal of the Pact of Concord. Ferrari want the piece of the pie. In the past already gave its fruits, so it is not surprising that it happen again played.
